Principal’s Report
Pride in our school – Excellence and Respect
Last week 6.4 and 3.3 classes visited the Fremantle Museum and Old Jail as a result of the HASS lessons they had completed. Apparently, our students were fabulous ambassadors for the school and demonstrated excellence and respect where ever they went. The guides at the museum and jail went out of their way to comment on how well behaved our students were and how genuinely interested and engaged they were in the excursion. In fact, because of their behaviour the excursion sites were able to provide experiences to our students that were not always available. We are very proud of our MSPS ambassadors.
Further to that, last week two of our school leaders were seen helping an elderly member of the community who was struggling to get across the street with a walker and shopping. How kind were Harley Brown and Malakai Clinch? You are well deserving of your leadership roles at Middle Swan PS. It was heart warming to have that brought to our attention.
Change of SDD dates
Usually, every first Monday of the term is a school development day when students do not attend. In term 3 the first Monday 15 July is a normal school development day. However, the first Monday in term 4 will be a normal school day and students will attend.
To meet availability of dates for staff professional learning we will hold the term 4 school development date in week 5 on Monday 4 November.
Canteen
Behind the scenes we have been investigating the possibility of a canteen service again. And – we are thrilled to have been able to find a service that will provide the school with canteen, 2 days a week. Starting next term every Thursday and Friday students will be able to order their lunch and purchase morning tea. The new service is called A1 Catering who also provides canteen services in other local schools. We will provide menu details and ordering methods in week 1 next term.
Swimming Lessons
Please note that Year 3 swimming sessions will be split across both terms this year because we have split classes in some groups. In term 3 Mrs Georgiou’s year 3s will participate in the Year 4-6 lessons. In term 4 the remaining Year 3s in 3.4 and 3.2 will complete their lessons with the PP – Year 2.
PJ Day
We have planned some fun for early next term. On Friday the 26 July we will hold a PJ day when everyone can come to school dressed warmly in their snuggly PJs and dressing gowns. Please note that if children wear slippers as well, please ensure they bring normal school shoes for playing in at recess and lunch. That Friday is also an ‘Eagle Cup’ day so any year 5 and 6s who are involved will need to bring sport clothes to change in to before their games.
Cygnets 3-year-old Programme
Due to the lack of numbers attending the Cygnets program in recent times we have postponed the program until further notice. If you are interested in attending the 2-hour program for pre Kindy children, on a Thursday morning, please leave your name at the school’s front office.
Kind regards

Food Bank
On Wednesday the 22nd and Wednesday the 29th, Room 6.4 and Room 3.3 were visited by the Foodbank WA team for the nom! Schools program. Both classes learnt about healthy eating, did fun nutrition education activities, and cooked up a storm! Across both days, room 6.4 and 3.3 prepared 16 new, delicious recipes using ingredients from the five food groups, and at the end of their visits the classes sat down to feast on a sample of everything they cooked. Some crowd favourites included Cheesy Pasta Blast, Rainbow Salad, Coco Loco Balls, and Noodle Ninja Mince (YUM)!!!
Students were given recipe books to use at home, and we are looking forward to what they cook next with their awesome cooking skills!

Fremantle Prison and Shipwreck Museum Excursion
On Thursday 20th June, Room 3.3 and 6.4 headed off to Fremantle for an excursion. We had a tour of Fremantle Prison where we had a look at the small cells the convicts once lived in, walked Moondye Joe’s escape path and even got to experience being in a dark solitary confinement cell ourselves. After this we explored the WA Shipwrecks Museum, where we took a journey through Western Australia’s coast, first European encounters, and the riches of maritime trade. We even had a small play at the Esplanade Park and had a great time learning lots of new things in Fremantle.
Scholastic Book Fair
Last month we held the Scholastic Book Fair in our school library. We sold over $3000 worth of books and other items. This has raised nearly $1000 to purchase new books for our school so that all students can enjoy reading them. Thank you to all the families who supported the book fair this year, it was great to see so many children buying books.
